Course: Motivating Struggling Readers
Description
How do we help students who struggle with reading learn to love to read? Through thoughtful activities and instructional changes, we can learn to motivate students who struggle and turn them into life-long readers.
Covered Topics
Teachers will learn how to:
· Create a classroom of peer-led discussions
· Use engaging activities to motivate readers
· Help families motivate their readers at home

· Understand socialization in reading and how it is a motivator for students.
· Teachers know that students who struggle to read are less likely to participate or enjoy reading.
Skills
· Learn how to use peer-led discussions of text in the classroom.
· Learn how to help families motivate students for reading at home.
· Learn instructional strategies that can be used to motivate struggling readers.
Mindsets
· Understand why confidence plays a big role in how students perceive themselves during reading instruction.
· Understand why building confidence and creating classrooms in which students feel comfortable taking risks is critical.
